Israeli doctor says detained Palestinians are undergoing ‘routine’ amputations for handcuff injuries

A doctor at a field hospital for detained Palestinians in Israel’s Sde Teiman army base revealed concerning conditions and frequent amputations due to injuries from handcuffs, as per Haaretz.

In a letter to Israeli authorities, the doctor highlighted the compromised health of inmates and ethical violations at the facility. He cited routine amputations and inadequate care leading to complications and deaths.

The doctor stated that detainees are restrained constantly, fed through straws, and forced to use diapers, violating medical ethics and laws.

The IDF denied the allegations, stating they operate within legal frameworks, prioritizing detainee dignity and prohibiting violence. However, a medical source confirmed detainees’ dehumanizing conditions, including constant restraints and blindfolding.

The Sde Teiman field hospital, established after Hamas’ attacks, faces criticism for its treatment of Gazan detainees. Reports highlight ethical lapses and harsh conditions, with detainees enduring physical and psychological harm.

The doctor’s letter underscores staffing shortages and inadequate medical training at the facility, leading to further complications and even deaths among detainees.
