Five plastic-wrapped packages suspected to contain cocaine have been discovered on Sydney beaches, adding to a puzzling drug mystery that has persisted for months.

The package was found by beachgoers at Freshwater and Curl Curl on Monday, the parcels, totalling 5kg, were confiscated by police.

Authorities believe these packages are part of a larger shipment of cocaine that has been washing up sporadically since December.

Australia ranks highest globally in per capita cocaine usage, followed by Britain, according to the OECD.

The NSW Police urged in a statement “Report any suspicious package to authorities,”, as investigations into the matter continue.
